12 Monkeys season 4 premiere: The beginning of the end

12 Monkeys -

You’ve waited for a long time for the 12 Monkeys season 4 premiere to air on Syfy, and the good news, at least at the moment, is this: We’ve almost made it! Friday, June 15 is right around the corner, and that is when the final season is going to kick off — albeit in particularly unusual fashion.

In case you haven’t heard, the network is doing something rather unusual insofar as the structure for this final season goes. They are airing the final episodes in batches of three, which means that you’re going to get through the entirety of this final season in less than a month. It will almost feel like you are watching an extended movie every week more so than a TV show. For those of you with a lot of time on Fridays or a DVR at the ready, this shouldn’t be a problem for you.

As for what’s coming story-wise, be prepared for some time-travel, a little bit of humor, but also stakes that are higher than they have ever been before. Time really is of the essence here, and we don’t mind making the most-obvious pun ever to describe it.

Below, you can check out some episode synopses for the first three episodes airing on Friday.

Season 4 episode 1, “The End” – “The final conflict with the Army of the 12 Monkeys begins when the Witness returns to Project Splinter.”

Season 4 episode 2, “Ourboros” – “Travelers come face to face with ghosts from their past when they find themselves maneuvering around their own timelines.”

(Side note: Since when was “Ourboros” a common episode title? We know that the snake eating its tale is a popular image, but we’ve legitimately seen it attached to a few different shows the past year or two.)

Season 4 episode 3, “45 RPM” – “Cassie travels back in time to confront a younger Olivia while Cole helps Jennifer find the meaning behind her final Primary vision.”
