Blue Bloods season 9: Should Peter Hermann return?

Blue Bloods season 9

As we look ahead to Blue Bloods season 9, there are of course many different questions worth wondering. For the sake of this one, though, we want to put the focus mostly on the Erin Reagan story — and that, of course, includes Peter Hermann as Jack Boyle.

Why wouldn’t you want to see more of the character? For starters, some of the appeal here comes in that you’re getting a talented actor like Hermann back on the show. Beyond that, there is of course a ton of history there. Getting more Jack effectively means getting an opportunity to tell some more stories that can trace back to his past with Erin — yet, it also touches on whether or not there is a chance for the two to work as a couple in the present. They’ve went through their share of struggles, both in terms of in their personal lives and also their careers. Yet, they also understand each other better than most.

We saw plenty of inklings near the end of season 8 that Jack had changed and wanted another shot at things — yet, we also got a good sense as to how protective Danny is of his sister. That makes a ton of sense, given that the last thing that he ever wants is to see her in a situation where she gets hurt. He’s going to protect her through thick and think and this was another opportunity for him to showcase that. Bringing Jack around more is just another way to generate some more family tension and conflict … and we, of course, are always going to welcome that.

The biggest challenge that comes with getting more of Jack on Blue Bloods is strictly a matter of scheduling. Hermann is a major part of Younger over on TV Land and with that, it really all comes down to scheduling. We just hope that there are some ways for him to carve out a few episodes moving forward. Season 9 premieres on CBS this fall.
