Why Sandra Oh isn’t interested in Grey’s Anatomy return (for now)
It has been years since Sandra Oh first departed Grey’s Anatomy and we know that for many fans, it never really gets easier. Cristina Yang is one of the best character on television for most of her run — she was strong-willed, intelligent, inspiring, and while she had her fair share of struggles, she found her way to get through them.
At a certain point, we imagine that it does get tiresome to hear questions about whether or not she would return; yet, isn’t it a compliment at the same time? It’s a sign that you did something great and with that in mind, it should be motivation to continue to do other incredible work.
For the time being, though, it does seem as though Oh is more than happy to keep her work as Dr. Yang in the past. Speaking on the subject recently through a TVLine podcast, she admitted that her feelings towards returning does fluctuate — but for now, it’s not something that is on the forefront of her mind:
“I get [the Grey’s] question regularly, and I answer it really based on what I’m feeling that day — and today [my answer] is no … I’m constantly stunned at the response I still get from [Grey’s fans], you know? It’s so fantastic, and it pleases me. It gives me a tremendous amount of satisfaction that, you know, you did work that actually continues going on past the time that you’ve left it… It’s really phenomenal. And the only way that I think I can continue doing good work is just staying true to my own compass. And that compass is pointing north.”
With that, Oh now has another fantastic series on the air in Killing Eve at BBC America, which has so far garnered a season 2 renewal and also plenty of praise from critics. There is also a chance it nets Sandra an Emmy nomination as an Actress in a Drama Series.
Personally, we do think there is a chance that Oh could return for a Grey’s Anatomy series finale down the road almost as a nod to the show’s history — but that doesn’t seem to be anywhere in the near future. Maybe that’s just our own wishful thinking.
