Christopher Sean leaving Days of Our Lives after four seasons

Lisa Rinna

There’s another big departure coming in the direction of Days of Our Lives — after four years on the air as Paul, Christopher Sean is saying goodbye.

According to Daytime Confidential, Sean is departing in order to try his hand at some other opportunities — which does make some sense, given that four years is a pretty good period of time to work on a daytime drama. There’s no official word on Paul’s final episode as of yet, but as is often the case with these shows, they film pretty far in advance so there’s a good stretch of story still to come. That’s plenty of time to figure out what to do with the character from here — killing Paul off is an option, but so is setting the stage for a recasting at some point down the road.

While Sean is departing, obviously Days of Our Lives will endure much in the way that it always has. It seems these days like there’s less conversation about daytime soaps than ever, but they do remain stalwarts to their respective networks. Days and The Young and the Restless especially continue to have devoted audiences and there remains a desire to get more of them.

As a matter of fact, live ratings in terms of total viewers are actually up for Days of Our Lives year-to-year by a margin (per TV Series Finale) of almost 6% from the 2016-17 season. That’s pretty great for a show that has been on the air for so long, especially in an era where there are so many other options. We do think that the era, in part, also has to do with the gain in terms of pure escapism. There aren’t many other options during the day that you can just sit down and watch something on TV that is a real opportunity to get away from much of the rest of the world.
