Clearly, 2018 is shaping up to be quite a year for John Noble, even if Fringe hasn’t been on the air for a while. He recently appeared as himself on Legends of Tomorrow, and beyond just that he’s also appeared in a super-creepy role on The Blacklist.
So what’s happening next? How about more of the actor on Elementary as Morland Holmes? Per TVLine, Noble will be returning starting with the July 2 episode, and as you would imagine, there is quite a bit of story here to tell. Here is some of what executive producer Rob Doherty had to say on the subject to the website:
“Family stuff will bring Morland (played by John Noble) and Sherlock back together … There will be developments that require the two of them getting together in New York, where they’ll have to deal with the ramifications of something that happens within the Holmes family.”
That’s not the only thing that the two are going to have to deal with, though, as they will also be forced to “deal with the professional choice that Morland made a few years ago when he decided to become the head of what was left of Moriarty’s organization.” That’s important primarily for the sake of creating a little bit more emotional conflict. To go along with this, it’s also good to bring back to legacy of Moriarty even in the event that you are not bringing the character proper back into the fold. (Alas, we’d love to see Natalie Dormer back, but it doesn’t quite appear that this is happening in the near future. Maybe season 7?)
We already know moving into Monday’s Elementary that Holmes has another problem in the form of Michael, who feels as though he could be a Big Bad for the season and the sort of guy who could actually challenge our investigator in a way that he rarely is.
