Atlanta season 3 renewal confirmed over at FX

For everyone out there eager to get more of Donald Glover on TV, know this: An Atlanta season 3 renewal is now official over at FX.

We never really thought that there would be any debate here. This show remains an enormous critical favorite and a awards-show contender. It also generates tremendous social traffic for the network and continually finds a way to bring in new viewers. The star power of Glover at this point doesn’t hurt, either. While Solo: A Star Wars Story wasn’t an incredible commercial success, at the same time we certainly think it still helps to boost Glover’s profile.

In a statement today, FX original programming president Nick Grad had the following to say:

“Atlanta is phenomenal, achieving and exceeding what few television series have done … With Atlanta Robbin’ Season, Donald and his collaborators elevated the series to even greater heights, building on the enormous success of their award-winning first season. We’re grateful to the producers and our extraordinary cast and crew for achieving this level of excellence, and we share the excitement with our audience about the third season knowing they will continue to take us to unexpected and thrilling places.”

Our big surprise right now is that Atlanta season 3 is going to premiere on FX in 2019, which is a little bit earlier than we would have predicted, all things considered. After all, we had a to wait a good year and a half between season 1 and season 2; also, with Glover’s schedule and the commitment he puts into this series, it feels clear that he has to balance this with a number of other projects. We just hope that moving forward, he continues to find as many different ways as possible to keep this show relevant, interesting, and refreshing to the bulk of its audience.
