Chicago Fire season 7 writers room officially opens; challenges ahead

Chicago Fire

Great news for everyone eager to see your favorite Firehouse 51 crew back in action soon: The Chicago Fire season 7 writers room is officially open!

Earlier this week, show executive producer Derek Haas made this announcement official in a post on Twitter, which is both exciting but also a reminder that we have more than three months to go before the series premieres in its new timeslot Wednesday nights at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time.

When you look at virtually all of the different series out there across the board for the fall, Chicago Fire still has some of the biggest challenges to try and overcome. For starters, it has to figure out a way in which to write out Gabriela Dawson from the show and that’s not going to be easy. It’s not known as of yet if Monica Raymund will be returning to the series for more and with that, you almost have to consider her last scene in the season 6 finale as her last scene on the series period. If there is a chance for her to turn up again, that’s great. If it doesn’t happen, it’s a bummer. It may be completely out of producers’ hands at this point.

Creatively, Haas and company set things up in a way in which Dawson is leaving to take part in the relief effort in Puerto Rico. That is a noble cause, and it does absolutely feel like something that she would do. Yet, there are some other things that the team now needs to consider, including the impact this is going to have on Matt Casey and also the rest of Firehouse 51. They are also going to have to find a new partner for Brett, who Dawson worked closely with throughout season 6.
