Why Keiynan Lonsdale is leaving The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow
In a new post on Twitter, Lonsdale confirmed that it was his choice to depart the series, saying simply that he wants something different out of his life now and wants some time to explore down an “unknown path.” We know still that he is set to appear in at least the season 5 premiere of The Flash as Wally West, and he also makes it clear that “it’s definitely not a total goodbye or ‘see ya never’ situation … Wally West will still be around when you need him most.” Therefore, we do think that we’ll have a chance to see him turn up here and there in the months to come — for now, we’re thinking of this in a similar way to Wentworth Miller as the many different iterations of Leonard Snart. There are always going to be ways in which you rope him back into this world, so we can just wait and see precisely when some of these happen.
Lonsdale was first introduced into the world of The Flash back during the second season of the show, and it was at the start of season 3 that the idea of him being Kid Flash first started to play out to a larger extent. He left that show a handful of episodes into season 4 only to then head over to Legends of Tomorrow, where Wally proved essential in the showdown against Mallus. That show seems to be moving forward now with Matt Ryan, who is coming on board as a regular after previously starring as John Constantine for the short-lived NBC series.
