A Roseanne spin-off would not be ready for September premiere
According to a report from Variety, even if a decision is made on the future of the franchise without Roseanne Barr on board, it would still not be ready for the previously-planned return date in September. That does make a little bit of sense, given that you would still need a little bit of time in order to properly conceptualize the new series and how you really move forward without Roseanne herself as a part of the show. Many season 10 cast members would be poised to return, with Sara Gilbert potentially serving as one of the stars. This is one of the challenges — if you can get most of the cast other than Roseanne, the show could work. If you cannot, however, then you run the risk of the series feeling like it’s an entirely different thing and something that does not necessarily make a heck of a lot of sense.
There are many different risks that come with trying something that is roughly the same show without Barr in the first place, but we will say this as we have in previous articles: The ratings for the very first episode are likely going to be massive given some of the recent stories and controversy about the show. It’s possible that this could be a jumping-off point for another great series, provided of course that the show is of a high enough quality that many other people are convinced to stick around.
Once there is some more insight, we will absolutely present another update.
