How did AMC’s Dietland premiere fare in the ratings?
So how did the show perform overall in its first two episodes? By and large, the network has to be reasonably satisfied with the results. Despite some competition from the likes of The Bachelorette and also the Stanley Cup Finals, the show still did post a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and over 660,000 total viewers. In terms of live ratings for a new cable series airing in the summer, that’s not too bad. The fuller picture is going to be coming up in the weeks ahead, as we start to get a little bit more of a sense of what some of the DVR ratings are. That’s something does matter in its own right for TV these days. There’s just so much programming on that more networks are starting to understand that it’s pretty darn impossible to draw huge numbers unless something catches on like wildfire.
Ultimately, Dietland is the sort of show that has a future very much dependent on what comes next. We saw with Killing Eve earlier this year a show that build up a big audience over time and actually improved its live+same-day ratings from one season to the next. If that happens here, it’s going to be pretty clear that it will be a show that lasts for quite some time.
Once there’s more news on the ratings, we’ll be sure to let you know.
