Gotham season 5 may be only ten episodes

Gotham

We knew that Gotham season 5 already was poised to be the final season of the show — now, we’re also learning that it may be extremely short to go along with it.

During a recent Instagram Live session, series star Camren Bicondova (Selina Kyle) suggested that this season may be only ten episodes. This is not the only time that we’ve heard this over the past week or so, and that’s a tremendous bummer since it’s not exactly a lot of time to properly wrap anything up. This news is not official at Fox, so if there is any sort of silver lining to hand down, it’s simply that there’s a little bit of wiggle room with that in mind.

For the time being, though, we’re inclined to think that Bicondova would not be saying this regarding the future of Gotham unless it was true, and it does make a certain degree of sense. Fox is clearly in the midst of a huge pivot right now when it comes to their programming, as they’ve canceled virtually all of their live-action comedies already and moved on from several drama series. We’re not altogether optimistic about the future of some of their shows still on the schedule, either, as the potential Disney acquisition of many Fox assets could lead towards the network itself streamlining and moving to a model where they’re prioritizing live programming and sports more so than anything else.

The only advantage we foresee of Gotham doing a ten-episode final season is that they can really do a continuous arc that doesn’t veer off in too many other directions. All of this can lead to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman proper and some of the villains finally getting a chance to fulfill their destiny.

Gotham season 5 is currently set to premiere in early 2019 — Bicondova suggested January, so let’s hope it’s then as opposed to later in the year.
