Outlander notes: New Sam Heughan panel; Caitrona Balfe talks season 3

Outlander season 4

In this Saturday afternoon edition of Outlander notes, we’re going to kick things off with some new panel highlights from none other than Sam Heughan!

Sam was a guest this weekend at a special Jus In Bello event in Italy and while there, he touched on a wide array of different topics including Brianna, book spoilers, and David Berry as Lord John Grey. You can see two videos of his appearance below (via Outlander Italy) and they are absolutely worth a watch or two. They’re fairly short but they give you a good sense of the positively atmosphere and sense of fun that was present at the event.

There was also a pretty fun exchange regarding Caitriona Balfe that bled over to Twitter, which you can also see below. While filming for Outlander season 4 is still going on, it’s nice to see that Sam had a nice little break in here so that he could visit some fans and talk a few assorted odds and ends when it comes to the show. These sort of interviews are always fun to see given that technically, there are very few spoilers for material that is already out there in the books; yet, it’s also hard to gauge how much of your audience has actually read said books and is watching the story play out unaware as to what’s happening next.

If you missed it from last month, there is a fantastic piece over on the official Emmy website featuring Balfe discussing the third season of the show — it’s worth a read if you haven’t already, as she really goes deep on the performance side of playing the character and what she took away from it. The following is just a quick summation of her thoughts towards this season as a whole:

“You know, I think this last season has been a great season to be playing Claire. I think the writers and Diana gave her this youthful arc and this beautiful journey. It’s not very often that you get to play such a great storyline, and it’s just been so much fun to be able to do that, and I just feel very grateful that we have so much great TV on at the moment and these great roles for women … So it’s just been a really great season.”
