Supergirl season 4: Is there a way to keep Sam around?

There have been a number of different things about the Sam storyline on Supergirl that we appreciate, with one of the biggest ones being how it’s put some of the main characters into such a precarious position. They care about her to such an extent that they don’t want her to die and with that, they’re willing to do anything that they can to stop Reign via alternative means. That includes trying to separate the two, which is the plan that could be coming to fruition on Monday night.

As we start to ponder this, though, there is one other question worth asking: If Reign is defeated, is there then a way to keep Sam around for season 4?

If you measure the temperature of the fandom, we feel like there are many supporters out there of both Odette Annable’s performance and also the friendship that is there between Sam and some of the other show’s main characters. There can never be enough quality friendships with this show! Sam would be both a valuable ally to Lena business-wise and also a great foil to many other cast members on the show.

Yet, with Reign gone, what would you center the story around? That’s another question you do have to wonder since after a storyline this meaty for season 3, you have to find a way to at least come close to matching it moving forward — and that could be a very difficult thing to do. That’s why so many of the different villains on the show are only around for a year — it’s really quite hard to secure them for longer than that unless you continue to find a way to build up their story.

For now, we’re not having any expectations that we see Sam beyond this season. Even if she survives what lies ahead, it’s possible she could decide she doesn’t need this sort of constant reminder of her past and moves with Ruby somewhere else to get a fresh start. Our hope at the very least is that if she makes it through, there are some chances to see her occasionally down the line — if it is more than that, consider it a pleasant surprise.
