There is a lot to report on today in regards to Lethal Weapon, and we do have to say that none of it is altogether positive when it comes to the show’s future.
If you have the time, we absolutely cannot recommend enough the Variety piece posted today that detailed in-depth a number of the on-set incidents that led to the eventual departure of Clayne Crawford, including quotes from a number of crew members and on-set employees about both Crawford’s behavior alongside Damon Wayans. It also includes some recorded conversations, specifics about on-set blowups, and through and through, it’s outstanding reporting.
Is the situation also sad? Absolutely, since it is a further reminder of just how nasty things got behind the scenes and also how difficult it is going to be to move the series forward. For the time being, what we know is this: Filming for season 3 is going to begin in July and this is going to be an opportunity to see if the series, the cast, and the crew can actually start over and repair what seems to have been an especially contentious set. The report notes that many crew members who were closer to Crawford are not being asked back and the show is looking to create a more peaceful, stable yet; yet, there remain many sources within the article that also complain about alleged behaviors by Wayans.
After reading all of this, the question that is very much worth wondering is this: Is all of it worth it? We’re never going to be one to root for a show to end since that means, in turn, rooting for many cast and crew members to lose their jobs. What other industry do you sit around and say “wow, I really hope a lot of people get fired because I don’t enjoy their work enough?”. Odds are, you probably don’t do that all that often. The future of Lethal Weapon is going to be based solely on how the public feels about this show after the fact, and they are going to probably be very judgmental of the first episode right from the start. Seann William Scott is a good actor, but he is also coming into a very contentious situation with many fans taking different sides and wondering how the show, based on a film franchise, will even work.
