The Originals season 5 episode 9 spoilers: Hope’s actions and consequences

What lies ahead on The Originals season 5 episode 9? We’re looking ahead in this CarterMatt article to the upcoming June 20 episode entitled “We Have Not Long to Love,” which is a little devastating when you think about it. One of the central tenets for many of these characters is immortality, so why start to focus on the brevity of life instead?

One possible reason is this: Many of the characters are still reeling over the death of Hayley, which does still remain the watershed moment for this season. It’s the event that in some ways we should have been prepared for; yet, in other ways we weren’t and with that, we do now have to continue to contend with the consequences of that.

Below, The Originals season 5 episode 9 synopsis gives you a little bit of a further sense of just what is coming for some of these characters as they still try to recover from some of what they’ve been through:

TAKING THE POWER BACK – As Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood), Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Josh (Steven Krueger) work to clean up the city, an uprising of purist vampires leads the supernatural factions into a deadly showdown. Hope’s (Danielle Rose Russell) attempt to bring her family back together leaves her struggling with the consequences. Finally, Freya (Riley Voelkel) makes a life-changing decision. Joseph Morgan and Daniel Gillies also star. Bethany Rooney directed the episode written by K.C. Perry & Michelle Paradise (#509). Original airdate 6/20/2018.

What we want to know about here is this: Where are we going with this season? What are we actually building to? Maybe on some level it is a happy reunion, but there is surely something more. It feels like much of the story this year is just themed around the idea of perception: What is perceived to be right and perceived to be wrong. Are the Mikaelsons too toxic for this Earth, and what could be done in order to remove them?
