Bad Boys spin-off LA’s Finest may have new home with Charter Communications
Per a report coming in now via Deadline, Charter Communications is closing in on a potential deal to pick up the series, which stars Gabrielle Union and Jessica Alba, to air across their Spectrum services. The show comes via Sony Pictures Television, and one of the apparent reasons for the pickup would be to help further the cable company’s strategy of picking up top-tier original content. We’re in an age now where many viewers out there are cord-cutting and going with a la carte streaming options rather than your everyday cable. This is a way to incentivize consumers to stick around, provided that they like these actors or the original Bad Boys movies from so many years ago.
Will this strategy work? It’s too early to tell but getting this show could be a fairly expensive investment. LA’s Finest was one of the most expensive pilots over on NBC, but it was determined that it wasn’t a natural fit with most of what the network wanted to do. It’s reasonably common for pilots to flutter around after their original home opts against not picking them up, and there are times when it comes back to bite them in a big way. One such example of this is when Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt eventually went over to Netflix, where it became a huge hit. Picking shows to come on the air is, at the end of the day, an imperfect science.
Once there is some more news to report on in regards to LA’s Finest, we’ll be sure to let you know. Our feeling is that if the show is picked up, you will be waiting a while to see it.
