Following today’s installment featuring radio icon and former America’s Got Talent judge Howard Stern, is it possible that My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman — with its super-long title — comes back for a second season?
At the moment, we should note that nothing is 100% confirmed … not that this should be much of a surprise given that this show seems in some ways to operate under its own very unique set of rules. When you’ve got someone under your employ like Letterman, we’re not sure that there is any point in really monitoring the ratings that closely and making some sort of formal decision. Shouldn’t this really just be all about what he wants to do more so than anything else?
When you look back at some of the guests Letterman had on the first season of his series, including former President Barack Obama, it feels pretty clear that there’s a reason from a publicity standpoint to bring this show back for more. Because of the fact that this is Letterman, he can get guests for this show that other shows cannot. If he wants to come back for more, then it really just seems as though you should let him do that without asking any further questions. This is a talk show that can really operate under any sort of way in which it wants to.
We would imagine that in the event the show does come back for another season, it is going to come back whenever there are more great interviews to air. What makes this show different than any other on Netflix is that the episodes are released sporadically. The only thing that is really similar is some of their other talk-show-based programs, but this one is even more sporadic. We hope that it does come back in due time, provided of course there are more great guests and long-form conversations.
