Reverie: Three reasons to watch NBC’s new Sarah Shahi drama
Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest) stars on the show as Mara, a former hostage negotiator who is hired by her former boss Charlie (Dennis Haysbert) to take on a new and groundbreaking challenge: Freeing people from a virtual-reality simulation that effectively allows them to either live or relive their wildest dreams. Unfortunately, for some these dreams are so vivid and wonderful that they end up deciding to remain trapped within them. They lose themselves within this simulation, not realizing that the longer they stay, the more they could lose themselves.
We’ve already seen the pilot episode and we’ll say, for now, that it’s wonderfully imaginative and definitely worth a viewing. We’ll have a full review later tonight, but we felt like for now, we’d offer up three different reasons to watch if you’re on the fence.
Sarah Shahi – If you loved her on Person of Interest, Chicago Fire, Fairly Legal, or any of the other shows she’s appeared on over the years, you’ll very much like her here. Mara is a formidable, intelligent character who also has experienced a great deal of tragedy. There’s far more to her than you will realize at first glance.
The imaginative Reveries themselves – These dream-worlds are visually stunning, creative, and really do create a sense of wonder that you rarely see on a network TV show. For those of you who love summer escapism, you will find it here.
The potential – The pilot is set up in a way where you can see somewhat where the story is going to go, but with also a couple of little twists thrown in there to make things a little more complicated. There’s easily enough story here to sustain a first season and maybe beyond, depending on where things go from here.
If you like shows with a strong human element and a touch of sci-fi, we imagine that Reverie is going to be up your alley. You can see one of the latest teasers for the show below, and be sure to like CarterMatt on Facebook for some other insight regarding this show and many more. (Photo: NBC.)
