This Is Us has already filmed some series finale scenes

Here’s something that may shock many people out there: This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman has not only plotted parts of the series finale already, some have already been filmed! That’s somewhat amazing, but it does speak in a way to the amount of preparation that was done from the onset of this show.

While at a recent For Your Consideration event, Fogelman told the crowd (per TVLine) that he really wanted to know where the series was going to go from the start, mostly so that it keeps the show from getting into some sort of a rut:

“We’re pretty far out … Our writers and I are kind of to the end. We know where it ends and we have a path for each season of the show. We’ve always had a plan. We didn’t want to get stuck. We had the kids and the timelines, and had to have a plan. I don’t think this show despite any success it may or may not have, will overstay its welcome.”

Does this mean that This Is Us is ending anytime soon? Hardly, but we also don’t think that this is the sort of show that is destined to go for eight or nine seasons. If it does that, there’s a chance that it could end up diluting itself — we also don’t want to watch a storyline where Jack forgets to vacuum and suffers mental anguish for twenty minutes. It feels like fix or six seasons tops would be a good length for this show to tell the entire story of the Pearson family from start to finish. There are no signs that season 3 is going to be the last one, so it’s probably going to continue for at least a little while after this.

Season 3 is going to air this fall on NBC, and if you missed it, series star Milo Ventimiglia has already stated that there are some scenes from Jack’s time in Vietnam that are going to bring a long of surprising information to light.
