With Roseanne canceled, here are five comedy revivals that should take its place

ABC 2018 Fall Schedule

At this point, you’ve certainly heard the news that Roseanne has officially been canceled in the midst of some racist remarks on social media from its star Roseanne Barr. With that, it does seem as though there’s a gap in ABC’s lineup — and there are certainly many interesting revivals out there that would be fun to take its place!

What we’ve done here is come up with a list of five different shows that seemingly, could work to take the place of Barr’s sitcom — we’ve tried to be at least moderately realistic here in choosing shows that either A) originally aired on ABC or B) hail from ABC Studios or were some sort of co-production from the past. That’s not we’re not throwing on here shows like a Seinfeld or a 30 Rock, since they were NBC shows and that would never happen. Also, we’re only thinking of half-hour shows — not trying to get another show canceled here!

Scrubs – It was on ABC at the end of its run, and with Sarah Chalke now available and with Alex Inc. canceled, you could also try to get Zach Braff. Neil Flynn may have another project, but maybe he could stop by as the Janitor here and there?

Spin City – By this, we’re talking about the Michael J. Fox edition of the show, and not so much the Charlie Sheen version that followed. (Sheen is still busy out there joking about getting Two and a Half Men back on the air.)

Ellen – So even if you don’t bring back the same version of the classic Ellen DeGeneres sitcom, couldn’t you recruit her to do a short comedy series that tackles issues in the present? It feels like the perfect opportunity.

Galavant – We know the ratings weren’t great for this medieval musical spoof, but we’re not over it ending just yet. Plus, it’s a chance to get an outstanding cast back on television after missing them from the moment this show was canceled.

The Wonder Years – Hey, if ABC is going to be in the business of bringing back shows that aired more than a decade ago, doesn’t one like The Wonder Years feel like a perfect fit given the desire for shows like This Is Us, that really make you nostalgic? Makes sense to us.
