Bryan Fuller pitches to replace Roseanne with Pushing Daisies and we’re here for it

Pushing Daisies -

While there’s been a lot of headlines today regarding the stunning Roseanne cancellation, we want to spend a little time now talking about what ABC could do with their fall schedule — after all, this does put the network in a position where they need to make a big change.

After all, Roseanne was meant to be the anchor for the network Tuesday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, it was their highest-rated show, and they ordered many shows and placed them with the expectation that they would be comparable to that audience. Now, ABC has a few different options … and Bryan Fuller has a suggestion: Revive Pushing Daisies and put it on in that spot!

Is Fuller joking? Absolutely, but there’s certainly a part of us that wishes he wasn’t given that this show is the perfect one for 2018: One that is imaginative, hopeful, optimistic, and stars the incredible Lee Pace, who we already miss on TV after the conclusion of Halt and Catch Fire. We’ve been wanting a revival ever since ABC canceled that show; we know Chi McBride is busy filming Hawaii Five-0, so it’s a little unfortunate that he doesn’t have an equally talented clone and/or twin brother who could fill that role.

In actuality, it’s likely that ABC will either just move up a midseason show for that spot or shift over a comedy from elsewhere — maybe they will pick up another comedy pilot that they had originally rejected, but they don’t have a lot of time to make that move. We know that there are people out there hoping that ABC could bring back Designated Survivor or a show like Lucifer that was canceled by another network, but we’re not counting on that. They’re probably looking for something with at least a little more live+same-day ratings potential than what either one of these shows can provide based on what we’ve seen.)
