Supergirl season 3 episode 20 reaction: Erica Durance on Kara’s choice

Supergirl season 3 premiere

It really shouldn’t be too much of a shock that Supergirl season 3 episode 20 put Kara Danvers in one of the biggest dilemmas of her entire life. After all, Supergirl figured out in this episode that in order to stop Reign, she needs to take the black kryptonite to do so. Unfortunately, the “rock” (which is likely black kryptonite) is the only thing keeping Alura and the other Kryptonians alive.

Now, Kara is left to figure out this: Is there a way in which to keep both the people of Earth and some remaining residents of her home planet alive? This is not going to be an easy thing for her to figure out, and it is an issue that Erica Durance (who plays this character) described further in an interview with TVLine:

“Ultimately, this is going to put Kara in a dilemma having to deal with the black kryptonite … I believe that [Alura] obviously sides with her daughter … but it’s a little bit more of a problem for Supergirl. In order to save her new adopted family, she’s taking from her mother, right? So it’s this strange dilemma. Of course Alura would do anything to help her, and it also galvanizes her to say, ‘OK, I’m going to continue to work on your father’s work and I’m going to get this done and I’m going to make it so that we are not dependent on this black rock.’ So it’s a new mission for Alura as well.”

Part of the fun over the remainder of this season could be watching these characters work together, even if they are far away from each other, in order to work something out here. We just wonder as time goes along if we’re going to see some of Supergirl’s friends on Earth start to apply pressure on her to make a decision in their favor. The reality here, unfortunately, is that sometimes Supergirl can’t save everyone … and that is something that she may have to live with.
