What’s on hiatus on May 27 because of Memorial Day Weekend?

Fear the Walking Dead season 4 episode 6

Do you want to know what shows are taking the weekend off for the Memorial Day Holiday? This doesn’t actually impact as many networks as you might think.

After all, just look at things from this vantage point: Most of the major broadcast networks already have their seasons wrapped for many of their shows — that includes NCIS: Los Angeles, Madam Secretary, The Simpsons, and more — until late September at the earliest. It’s a little more slim pickings out there, but some networks do still have a few episodes to burn on some of their shows. For example, CBS is airing still a couple of episodes of Instinct while ABC is broadcasting the final two episodes of Deception — pending a last-minute renewal somewhere else.

One of the reasons for hiatuses on Memorial Day Weekend is that for many people out there, Sunday really is akin to yet another Saturday. There are a good many people who have Monday off and they spend today doing other things. That’s why shows like Fear the Walking Dead and Into the Badlands are not airing over on AMC — the network doesn’t want to run the risk of losing viewers. Yet, there are other networks including FX that are taking the risk still in putting the finale for Trust on the air. Meanwhile, Showtime is broadcasting new episodes of their shows Billions and I’m Dying Up Here, largely because they don’t have to worry anywhere near as much about live viewers since their shows are so heavily time-shifted. (Last Week Tonight is off the air, but there are enough frequent breaks with it to assume that it’s not only about the holiday in this case.)

We typically like to think of this weekend as one of the best binge-watching weekends of the entire year. It’s an opportunity to really kick back, relax, and enjoy some programming

Sunday programming will be a little more sporadic over the summer in general this year — there are some new shows popping up down the road and Big Brother will be here before you know it. However, for now be sure to enjoy the weekend and get a little sunshine. We’ll be here to discuss all things TV the moment that you get back.
