Lucifer star Tom Ellis talks #SaveLucifer, more at MCM Comic Con
While there is still no formal update about the future of the series, Ellis remains in good spirits during his entire panel discussion — he was still grateful to the fans, he performed a little music, and even cited his work on the show for helping him to get back into singing once more. He also talked about how Lauren German is one of the funniest people out there and there was a great little video cameo from his co-star Rachael Harris.
If there was one recurring theme throughout the panel, though, it was the gratitude that Ellis had towards the fans, who have fought tooth and nail to save the show. The #SaveLucifer campaign has shown an unprecedented amount of enthusiasm and has brought people together in a wonderful way. So much of social media can be negative, so it’s really been rather lovely to see it used in a much more positive, encouraging manner.
Ellis also opened up about the fan reaction to the shocking cliffhanger at the end of the proper season 3 finale, one that certainly wasn’t meant to mark the end of the series:
“I was expecting the reaction we got, but the thing that none of us expected was the cancellation (laughs) … It’s been a long time coming, that moment. It wasn’t meant as the final moment of Lucifer.“
Hopefully, a streaming provider or a network out there is interested in picking up Lucifer and giving it another chance! We know that there have been discussions behind the scenes and we are cautiously optimistic — but, in the end, every revival is a longshot. You never want to set the bar too high since, more often than not, they just don’t happen. The most important thing is that fans are doing absolutely everything they can.
You can see some of Ellis’ panel through the video below — it may take a bit of searching since this is a live stream of much of the day’s events.
