Will Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD airing on one night work?

NBC

There were a number of interesting schedule shifts that we saw through networks announcing their fall schedules (read a little more here), but as of right now one of the biggest ones is NBC opting to throw Chicago Med, Chicago Fireand Chicago PD all on the same exact night. It’s a risky move, and it’s one that we will probably be looking at further in some shape or form over the next several months.

Is there a little bit of precedent for them airing all One Chicago shows one right after the other? There is in the sense that they’ve done it before for crossovers, and the move was probably also done with crossovers in mind. Whenever the shows do intersect the ratings often go up, and putting the shows on in this way could offer up more of them since it makes such sense from a storytelling point of view. Maybe this is a way that could keep all three shows on the air for a little while longer — or, maybe this is just a way in which to get them all more attention as a whole. NBC may save a little bit of marketing time promoting the three of them together as opposed to individually.

There are some pretty clear cases as to why airing Med, Fire, and PD one right after the next could be helpful to their success. Yet, there’s also a pretty clear reason as to why it may not. Just think about things in this way — how often is it that you are committed to a lineup of three shows in one night? While there are nights in which we all are, it’s a difficult thing to maintain. For fans of One Chicago, it may have been easier to watch one of these shows per night across the week than all three at once in one night. It’s a distinction that is worth pointing out. The ratings were good on the three-hour crossovers, but that may be just because the commitment was a little different when you were doing it maybe once or twice a year.

This is where we are curious for your thoughts. Do you think airing Chicago Med, Chicago PD, and Chicago Fire over the course of one night a week will be successful? Share below!
