Outlander star Sam Heughan joins Vin Diesel movie ‘Bloodshot’

For those of you wondering what Sam Heughan will be doing during his Outlander filming hiatus, we come bearing some news.

According to a report from Deadline, the actor is going to be joining Vin Diesel in the movie Bloodshot from Sony Pictures. Production on the superhero movie starts in July, which means that he will be jumping over to this not too long after season 4 filming wraps next month. The two are going to be joining Eiza Gonzalez and Michael Sheen in the project. Dave Wilson is set as the director for the project, which you can read a little bit more about via the site below:

Bloodshot is a central character in the Valiant Expanded Universe – a comic book universe composed of a diverse array of thousands of characters embodying a wide variety of genres, tones and demographic groups and over 81 million comics sold. Valiant’s superheroes are ordinary people in extraordinary situations rather than gods and demi-gods; they are complex characters that reflect contemporary society, politics, and diversity of the modern world.

While we are very familiar with many superheroes out there, Bloodshot is a little bit beyond our purview. (Consider this something we’ll read up on in the weeks ahead.) There is no word as to who Heughan will be playing within the project, but there’s something exciting about seeing him take on a role in this genre. It’s a way for him to mix things up and so something potentially very action-oriented.

This marks the second straight summer in which Heughan has done a movie during his time away from filming, as last year he worked on The Spy Who Dumped Me alongside Kate McKinnon and Mila Kunis. Given that there is a longer Outlander hiatus this year — filming may not begin until 2019 for season 5 — it is possible that Sam may be able to do multiple projects in that time depending on the filming schedule. The same goes for Caitriona Balfe and the rest of the cast.
