Why Criminal Minds season 14 should remain at 22 episodes
Unfortunately, there is still a question out there in regards to episode order. As reported recently, there is no guarantee that season 14 is going to run for a full 22 episodes just yet. That is a tremendous bummer, especially when you think about the legacy of Criminal Minds and what it has brought to CBS over the years. While a reduced order can signify giving the cast and crew more of a break, in this case it could also mean that the network isn’t as interested in the show as it once was. We don’t want that, since it’s a further suggestion that we are nearing the end of the road.
Keeping the show at 22 episodes is important for maintaining its longevity, but we would also argue that it is important for this show for creative reasons. There are many different reasons why viewers love Criminal Minds, and it does often vary from one person to the next. For example, some people out there may appreciate the show for the case-of-the-week format, or others may love it when specific characters get the spotlight. We’re someone who likes Criminal Minds the best when they break form and take a few different risks, including doing stories that last many episodes or introduce new long-term dangers at the BAU.
If you reduce the order of the show, you in turn make it difficult to satisfy the wide array of reasons why viewers like this show. The best thing that you can do in order to continue to make people happy is give them a wide array of what they want … and also still hope for the future. That’s something that cannot be minimized.
Once we’ve got more news on the premiere date, we’ll have that for you here — for now, our anticipation is that the series will resume in late September or early October.
