Could The Middle episode 10 ever happen over on ABC?

Following tonight’s series finale, is it possible that The Middle season 10 could ever happen at some point down the line?

The first thing that we should point out here is that, for some reason, The Middle isn’t really getting a whole lot of recognition given that tonight marks its very last episode. Then again, maybe that is the perfect microcosm for the fact that it never quite got some of the attention that it deserved during the show’s original run, either. This was always a show that drew consistent ratings without getting a ton of publicity. The fact that it’s doing so again right now shouldn’t come as all that much of a surprise. This final season actually averaged a 1.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is still rather good for a comedy series in 2018.

With this in mind, we do think that there’s a reasonably good chance that we see a revival at some point down the line — but not anytime soon. After all, The Middle is just now going off the air and like any family comedy, it needs some time to be missed. Also, the kids are going to get older — they’re hardly kids anymore at this point — and they have other chapters of their lives to be missed.

For those of you who do want to see more of The Middle down the line, what we would suggest is quite simple: Give it several years. Maybe you could do something at the time in which some of the Heck kids are parents themselves and the show becomes even more multi-generation. Given all of the competition out there and the vast thirst for nostalgia that so many people have, this seems to be where a lot of network comedy is going in 2018.

For now, don’t count on anything more — enjoy The Middle for what it is and take a wait-and-see approach on the rest.
