For the People season 2 premiere date hopes for ABC drama
Following tonight’s finale, one thing to take solace in is that there is going to be a For the People season 2 coming up on ABC in the future.
What’s the reasoning for this? It really seems to be twofold. For starters, the legal drama should thank Roseanne and the big shift in the network’s Tuesday-night programming schedule for the lift in the numbers. Following the premiere episode the show got a bump up to a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic, its highest rating of the season. It did start to decline again after the fact but this added sampling boosted the show close to a 0.7 average for the season.
This brings us to the second thing that For the People should really thank for a renewal: Shonda Rhimes. The plan for season 2 seems to be to premiere it in the spring of 2019 following the end of How to Get Away with Murder on Thursday nights — in doing that, they are keeping the #TGIT brand around a little while longer. With Rhimes leaving ABC for a new deal over at Netflix, we think that they are intent on keeping all of her properties for as long as they possibly can.
Luckily, in keeping For the People they are ensuring that they retain a show with a lot of potential. While its ratings for season 1 were far from great, there’s a chance that with streaming and a different lead-in next year things could improve. Notoriously, the Tuesdays-at-10:00 p.m. timeslot on ABC is really hard for shows to succeed in. That’s one of the reasons why they are banking on Nathan Fillion’s The Rookie to change that when it airs there in the fall.
