Supergirl season 4: will feature transgender character in Nia Nal

Supergirl season 3 episode 13

Supergirl returns this fall for Season 4 on the CW and we will have a new face among the cast.

According to Comicbook.com, the new character is a transgender character will be called Nia Nal, a woman with a strong journalism background. The character is said that she will have a significant role in the new season. Nia will be “a confident, wunderkind of a fashionista. Once a political speechwriter, Nia is the newest addition to the CatCo investigative reporting team. With her she brings sparlking wit and biting humor but under that banter-y, chic facade, lays a soulful young woman who has much to offer the world.”

She is also described as a woman in her early 20s with a “young Cat Grant type” personality about her and the role is being considered with open ethnicity. This is different because most parts have a specific type they are looking for, so for this role there is no specific ethnic background in mind.

Nia will be a character that could have a unique position because the show needs someone who has a shot at replacing the energy that Calista Flockhart took with her when she exited the series after it left Los Angeles to Vancouver. Flockhart’s Cat Grant brought a sort of energy that lightens the mood. She released the tension for some comic relief and she also gave it straight to people. If Nia is going to be a “Cat Grant type” then we have high expectations for her. The show needs someone to replace that energy because frankly the show needs that energy back. It’s done great  job in all other areas of the show, but it is still missing something, and we couldn’t figure it out until now.

Overall, the series is heading in a great direction. It moves forward while still keeping the characters who they are. It doesn’t compromise the integrity of the characters, it reveals more about them. We can’t wait to see what journey we will be lead down in the fall. We expect many surprises and twist heading into the new season, and we also hope that by moving the show to Sundays it will gain some new audience members.
