NCIS season 16 premiere date hopes: When will Mark Harmon series return?
It obviously goes without saying that there is going to be an NCIS season 16, as we are speaking about one of the most-popular series in the entire world. Mark Harmon has a new contract, and beyond just that our hope is that many of the other longtime favorites do end up returning. We’re still sad over the departures of Pauley Perrette and Duane Henry, so it feels like adding anyone else to this list would be akin to pouring tons of salt in the wound. We do like many of the cast members right now and hope that nothing else changes.
In looking forward to that aforementioned NCIS season 16 premiere date, the easiest assumption at the moment to make is that new episodes are going to begin airing in late September, largely because that is when so many of them have aired in the past. As a matter of fact, every single season of this show has premiered at some point between September 19 and September 28 since it officially came on the air. Right now, we would say to pencil in Tuesday, September 25 as the likely start date given that it falls perfectly into the window. If it would premiere before that, it would be the earliest that a season of the show has ever started.
So how much life is left in NCIS beyond season 16? Nothing is guaranteed for the show anymore and we feel like a big part of this is going to depend heavily on how the writers handle the departure of Abby long-term. She’s one of the show’s most familiar characters and losing her, Tony, and Ziva over the past several years is cutting out a huge chunk of what many viewers liked about the show. These three in particular were a part of a significant part of the show’s run and casting suitable new characters is no easy task. We don’t foresee season 16 the end, but at this point we’re certainly well beyond the halfway point unless NCIS somehow decides it wants to be like The Simpsons.
One thing to note, though, is this: If NCIS can get another five seasons beyond the 16th it would surpass Gunsmoke and Law & Order as one of the longest-running primetime drama series ever. Law & Order: SVU will likely still be ahead of it, as it was recently renewed for season 20 and we have a hard time imagining that this will be the final one.
