Visit Scotland updates Outlander locations map for season 3 tours

Outlander

There are many people out there who love Outlanderbut very few of them may love the series quite as much as those who work within Scotland’s tourism board. Since the very start the series has made the area into a destination — its hills, castles, and beautiful seaside locations are idyllic through the lens of many viewers and in visiting, viewers and readers get a chance to connect with something that they’ve envisioned in one way or another for years. There has been a massive boost in tourism already since the start of the series and we have a feeling that this is only going to continue in the years to come.

Visit Scotland is doing their part to make sure that they are on the ball with some of the latest tourism trends and with that, this week they have released an updated locations map that gives you insight on almost forty different places featured within the first three seasons of the show. You can view the entire map now over at the link here.

What is so smart about the way in which this said map is produced for visitors is that it tells you about the locations in relation to the show, but also about their significance in the real world and what else you can find there. For example, they highlight the parts of Edinburgh that were used for exteriors in “Freedom & Whisky” and “A. Malcolm” — while also showing you what else to do in the area. It supports local businesses and appeals to fans of the show at the same time. The goal of Scotland’s tourism board is clearly to have you fall in love with every place you visit, but often for reasons that you may not immediately expect.

With some locations, they especially face some unique challenges given that there are parks and even in one case a university that actually doubled on the show for parts of America. With that, they have to point out some of what makes these locations fascinating in relation to Scotland, even if they were used on the show for an entirely different purpose. We imagine that this is going to remain a challenge for Visit Scotland moving into season 4, where many of the locations are actually doubles for places within America.
