The Voice: Kyla Jade’s original song ‘The Last Tear’

Kyla Jade

In honor of Monday night marking the first part of The Voice finale, we are back today to fulfill what has become an semi-annual tradition: Breaking down original songs. In this article, the focus is on Kyla Jade of Team Blake Shelton and her song “The Last Tear.”

What Kyla has done a tremendous job of doing all season is taking on some bold, big, and soulful performances — she’s dabbled in gospel and also the stylings of Aretha Franklin and others. While she may not be a country singer, she has followed a similar road map to how some of his other successful contestants have made it far on the show over the years.

Moving into the finale now, it’s easy to make a case for her as a possible winner and we think that “The Last Tear” helps with that. It’s another big, emotional song that she can completely destroy live in all of the best ways possible. This will be reliant on her vocal ability, but that has been her strength all season long. We’re not sure that anyone out there will be able to interpret the vocal meaning or anything else during the performance itself, mostly because they will be so impressed by many of the vocal theatrics. The lyrics are something that they will probably come to know a little bit better over time.

When it comes to gauging Kyla’s chances in the finale overall, a big part of that is probably going to be gauged by whether or not she can deliver across all of her different performances — heck, something as simple as placement in the lineup could be valuable given that this is a rather unpredictable season we’ve got this time.
