Bull season 3: What should the ratings expectations be?
Is there a natural reason to be frustrated about the move? Certainly so, since this places the series in a time period in which its ratings are almost sure to decline. Yet, the sole reason it was probably placed here is because CBS has faith that they won’t decline all that much. This has been a tough timeslot for a while on the network, as Scorpion year after year has struggled to maintain an audience there.
With Bull, what Mondays are inhering is a consistently strong series with memorable characters and a star in Michael Weatherly who has spent over a decade and a half being a solid contributor to CBS. What’s also remarkable is that season 2 was only down around 6%, give or take, in total viewers from the first season. Those who turned in for the first season stuck around for the second, and given that season 2 was in many ways an improvement over season 1, we would hope that this would lead to some other sort of consistency.
Here’s our modest hope for Bull season 3 on Mondays: A 1.0 rating in the demo and around 8.5 million viewers. That would be down from the 1.2 rating and 10.6 million it drew in its previous timeslot, but it would greatly improve CBS Mondays and also ensure effectively that it sticks around on the air for a long time. It is up against some hefty competition including The Good Doctor over on ABC and the upcoming NBC drama Manifest, but we do think it has a chance to perform well since there are no clear similarities between the three shows. Each will be competitive with the other, but none of them altogether overlaps when it comes to subject matter.
