Entering Siren season 1 finale, Freeform has ratings momentum
Thursday night’s new episode of the show generated a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic along with 615,000 total viewers. In terms of viewers, this is the most-watched episode of the show since April 19. What that means is pretty valuable: There is a devoted contingent of people checking the series out, and that same group of people may be loyal enough to stick with it entering a season 2 down the road.
Over at Freeform, we imagine that there is a certain awareness at this point that the vast majority of viewers of their shows are not watching live — many of them stream the show after the fact or watch it on either their DVRs or On-Demand. It’s with that in mind live viewers are all the more important as a measuring stick of a show’s popularity. While all of those non-traditional television viewers are important, you also want to have people who are almost afraid to miss an episode live because of spoilers. You want there to be events around your episodes and we’re not sure that they have had that fully as a network since Pretty Little Liars finished. While Siren isn’t at that level in terms of its popularity, we are curious to see what the numbers can be for season 2 if there are viewers out there who end up getting hooked on it.
