Grey’s Anatomy season 14 finale review: A wedding and other questions

Alex Karev - is Justin Chambers leaving

Is Justin Chambers leaving Grey’s Anatomy? We know that there are so many other questions that the season 14 finale is asking on ABC, but this admittedly was one at the top of our mind the moment that we learned that Joe and Alex could be moving.

Ultimately, we knew that Jo had a prominent honor to have a fellowship outside of the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and with that in mind, Alex was seemingly set on going with her. The thought of losing Chambers would be a hard pill to swallow, largely since he is one of just a handful of original cast members — and he’s one of the show’s most-beloved characters at the same time.

Unfortunately, leading out of the finale it is still not 100% clear as to whether or not we are going to see Alex leaving or staying. We’re just hoping that he finds a way to stay put. He did say that he’d never leave Meredith, but was that admission literal or metaphorical?

We do recognize that there was a lot of other content that unfolded over the course of this finale, and that includes not one, but TWO different weddings involving main characters. Not only did we see the much-hyped ceremony between Alex and Jo, but then also at the same time one with April and Matthew Taylor. She had already decided to leave the hospital to do work with her faith and the community, and after everything that she and Matthew had been through she decided, at the end of the episode, to be with him and to go ahead and get married.

In terms of fun, we had a really nice moment with Meredith turning into an officiant to marry Jo and Alex — they each said “I do” and now, they can move forward through their future. Meanwhile, Arizona seems to be moving towards her own future in New York, one that could actually include Callie after and her ex were texting each other over the course of the wedding.

On a very different note, the finale closed with a surprise that we absolutely didn’t see coming, but one that makes sense: Teddy is pregnant. What this means for her future, and for Owen’s future, very much remains to be seen.

CarterMatt Verdict

As a whole, we’d consider the Grey’s Anatomy season 14 finale really entertaining — whether it be seeing Jo and Alex getting stuck in a shed after having sex there or seeing Glasses continue to screw everything up. Also, it only seems appropriate that there were two different wedding-related medical emergencies over the course of the episode. However, there are some big reveals that raise questions for the future, especially in terms of we could be seeing Teddy stick around.
