Lucifer star Tom Ellis talks season 4 campaign on BBC Newsnight

As hyped up earlier, Lucifer star Tom Ellis appeared on BBC Newsnight Wednesday in an effort to help to get the series back for a fourth season. The past week or so has been a whirlwind experience, chock full of highs and lows. In the video below, you can see Ellis do his best to describe what it has been like for him being on the ground floor of all of it.

Ellis lays out the emotional journey in a way that is easily understandable — learning the news about the cancellation was devastating, but then after seeing the outcry from fans, he wanted to do everything that he could to keep fighting for Lucifer. While doing the show is his job and it means something from an occupational standpoint, Lucifer is clearly no ordinary job. It is a labor of love for many who are involved with it and, in turn, it brings people so much joy. Fox certainly seems to have taken the show for granted given that had they promoted and hyped it up better, maybe they could have felt this level of passion and excitement around it on a regular basis. Lucifer fans are engaged, they are determined, and they want to ensure that the show isn’t going anywhere.

The fact that a major news organization like the BBC would even take notice of a campaign to save a show like Lucifer just shows the full extent of its viewers’ overall passion.

No matter what happens, one thing we do want to make clear is this: The work that the cast and producers are doing to get this show a new home is remarkable. In our almost ten years of working within this industry and almost seven at CarterMatt, we’ve seen many campaigns to keep shows on the air. We’re not sure that we’ve seen many quite like this where there is such a unified front from the showrunners to the actors to the fans. There is a lot to be proud of here and it shows just how much everyone involved loves working on Lucifer and presenting fans with its wonderful brand of entertainment. We know that efforts are still underway and hopefully more news will be coming soon.
