Could a New Girl season 8 revival take place after series finale?
If we were writing this article a good few months ago, there is a pretty good chance that we’d brush this idea off and not take it altogether seriously. Revivals weren’t altogether common at one point, but we are clearly at this point in TV history at a place in which they are happening with greater regularity. Networks know that there is a thirst for nostalgia, and in some cases like American Idol we’re seeing revivals happen not too long after their original runs end.
Unfortunately in this case, we don’t see one happening at any point in the near future. The final season averaged just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and around 1.5 million viewers. If the show was eligible to get another season it would probably be canceled. while we know that the majority of New Girl’s ratings come via either DVR views or streaming services, there’s still an expectation for the show to perform better than this. It’s hard to imagine anything more happening here within the next few years and we’re sure that, for now, the cast and crew are ready to move on.
With all of this being said, we don’t think you can rule out anything years down the road since sentiments can always change and shows can also gain popularity over time. If New Girl finds itself a brilliant second life after it ends, who knows what can happen at some point over the next several years? It’s also hard to tell what the live ratings landscape will be in even a few years; will we get to a point where the New Girl ratings suddenly look pretty good in comparison to everything else happening on TV? We do think that there’s a reasonably good possibility of that.
If anything ever does develop here, we’ll be sure to let you know.
