Monica Raymund’s Chicago Fire departure confirmed; see her statement

Chicago PD season 4 episode 2

Chicago Fire season 7 is officially going to be without Monica Raymund as Gabriella Dawson.

Days after the reports first surfaced suggesting that Raymund would be leaving the show, the actress confirmed said news in a handwritten note on her Twitter account. In it, she referred to being on the show as “one of the most meaningful experiences of [her] life” and expressed gratitude to everyone for their support over the course of the past several years.

As for why Raymund decided to depart, it doesn’t seem as though there is any sort of mass controversy or scandal there at all. This seems to be a decision rooted mostly in her just wanting to take on a new challenge and explore some new horizons, which is definitely something that we understand given that being a part of a series like this for a rather long period of time can be time-consuming. Creatively as a performer, we also understand the interest in continuing to find new ways to push yourself.

Regarding how Chicago Fire will choose to write Dawson off, it feels clear that she is going to be heading down to Puerto Rico to assist in the relief effort. In the long-term, though, there are some other major questions worth wondering, including what this means for Casey’s own personal life. Maybe you can get by for a seaosn or so with Dawson off-screen but eventually, is it really that tenable to have Casey married to someone who is not around? It’s certainly something that the writers are going to have to think about for quite some time.

For those who are curious, we’ve also enclosed below a statement from Chicago Fire showrunner Derek Haas, a man who has been there from the moment Raymund was first cast as the character.
