What’s coming up on Supergirl season 3 episode 19? “The Fanatical” is the title for this upcoming episode and based on some early details, we’re going to be tapping back into the James Coville story as introduced earlier this season. At first, it just seemed like this man and his worship if Kara was fit for a one-off story; however, since that time we’ve seen Coville become valuable simply due to his knowledge of Worldkillers. Below, the Supergirl season 3 episode 19 synopsis offers up some additional insight right now when it comes to some of what lies ahead:

JAMES CONSIDERS UNMASKING AS GUARDIAN – When Tanya (guest star Nesta Cooper), a disciple of Coville’s, escapes from what’s left of his cult, she gives Kara (Melissa Benoist) and James (Mehcad Brooks) a journal that could hold the key to saving Sam (Odette Annable). Someone learns Guardian’s identity and threatens to expose James if he doesn’t do what they ask. James contemplates what it means to be a black vigilante without a mask in America. Mairzee Almas directed the episode written by Paula Yoo & Eric Carrasco (#319). Original airdate 5/21/2018.

The story of Guardian could also be very interesting in its own right, not only because it’s touching of the idea of a hero actually being known to the public. While race in America may be a touchy subject to some out there, it’s a necessary one and a conversation worth having. What’s fantastic about doing this through the Supergirl lens is that it can happen in a way that is hopefully inspirational. While we know that there are some hateful, spiteful people out there, there are also many others that are capable of so much more, including a greater understanding. Hopefully, this sort of understanding is something that the series will explore.
