The Orville season 2 premiere date; Fox holds Gotham season 5 until 2019
There are a few different odds and ends worth noting via Fox’s fall schedule and the aftermath of it this morning, but let’s start with something definite: The Orville season 2 now has a premiere date!
Per the network, the Seth MacFarlane space series will premiere on Sunday, December 30 following NFL football before shifting over to its Thursday-night timeslot. The series is on hold for that long mostly because of Thursday Night Football taking away that part of the week. Gotham is also going to premiere its fifth and final season at some point in midseason; it feels like pairing it with The Orville could prove smart in the end.
Is there a part of us that wishes that Gotham could deliver good ratings and somehow get renewed in the process? Absolutely, but we’re also rather thrilled that it will get a proper ending and there is nothing happening (presumably) that could mess that up.
There are also two new dramas on Fox in The Passage and Proven Innocent, but these shows are being held until midseason as well. There is still no official word on the fate of LA to Vegas and Ghosted, two new comedies that aired over the course of the past year. It’s a little bit unusual for networks to not have their full schedule figured out by this point, but at the same time it is not entirely unheard of. We like both of these shows and it would be great if they were both able to find a way back to the schedule.
Other developments
Fox is still at work trying to make a new iteration of 24 (even if it’s not the same show you remember) and Prison Break is still in the development track. We’re not banking on either series arriving on television in the near future but they are still interesting pr
