Outlander notes: A set sneak peek; season 5, season 6 talk

Outlander

Welcome to this morning’s edition of Outlander notes! As per usual, we do have a number of different stories to touch on here from the world of the show.

Let’s start here with the latest tease of the show’s production designer Jon Gary Steele, a man who creates some Emmy-worthy items year in and year out. This is a thing of beauty. There’s not enough of it to really know precisely what it is, but that’s a part of the fun of it being a tiny sneak peek. This is the sort of thing that should get you excited about what’s coming to go along with also still creating some more anticipation.

The hard part at the moment is rather simple: Having to wait until November to see some of these production elements in all of their glory. It’s a long wait but based on everything we’ve come to know about the season to date, it will prove to be rather worth it.

Looking towards season 5, season 6

Is it possible that we will get these two seasons in 2019 and 2020? That’s definitely something worth wondering given that for the past couple of years, we’ve had to wait more than a year between the start of one season and the start of the next. The latest case in point here is Outlander season 4 premiering fourteen months after season 3.

Is it possible that this could happen again? It’s definitely something to be aware of, given that November is a fairly-strange time to premiere a show with more than ten episodes. It wouldn’t be shocking for season 5 to premiere in early 2020 and season 6 the following year. Ultimately, though, there is one reason to think the tradition of long Droughtlanders could stop: Seasons 5 and 6 having only 12 episodes. Depending on when filming starts, cutting down an episode should allow for a few weeks’ less time for the cast, crew, and post-production team … at least. It could be more. If nothing else, this is something to think about as a possible advantage to the shorter seasons.

Update: Thanks to new info (read here), season 5 may not start filming until 2019; this almost negates the possibility of the fifth season premiering next year. Expect it instead in 2020.
