Our Timeless season 3 renewal dream: Keeping #TimelessFridays alive

It was last year prior to NBC making a decision that we first discussed the idea of airing Timeless on Friday nights. Now, as we await whether or not NBC opts to pick the show up for another season, we are here to throw the idea back out into the universe again.

We know that with the ratings season 2 is getting Timeless is — once again — firmly on the bubble. Yet, consider this: The series is currently averaging a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic for the season. That is virtually identical to the 0.6 Blindspot is getting on Friday nights. If Timeless moves there and keeps its viewers, it would be doing just as well as a show that has already been renewed.

There are also some logical reasons to want to get Timeless in this spot, starting of course with the idea that the series is getting a chance to air earlier in the night. One of the things that we know many viewers have been frustrated with over the past couple of years is the fact that Timeless has been airing at an hour that’s too late for Fridays. With an earlier timeslot, that is no longer an excuse anymore. NBC likely wouldn’t move it into an earlier timeslot Monday-Thursday with the ratings being what they are, so instead they have to find another spot for the show to work. Fridays are really the only consistent option there. We know that it’s not ideal giving that there are other things keeping people away from their TVs on Fridays but sometimes, you just have to work with the cards that you are dealt.

We actually think that a lineup of Timeless and Blindspot on the night would be reasonably successful — if nothing else, it would improve NBC’s performance most likely from what it had this season with the one-two punch of Taken / Blindspot on the air. NBC’s renewal/cancellation record so far this year is mixed. We’re extremely sad about them ending The Brave, but they did do the right thing in choosing to bring Brooklyn Nine-Nine over after Fox chose to end it. While bringing Timeless back doesn’t make up for The Brave, it would at least give us something more to smile about this season.
