Renewals on the line: Gotham, Criminal Minds, Scorpion, Timeless, The Blacklist

Why are some networks stalling out on renewals? We’re getting near the eleventh hour and with that in mind, networks are going to have to make a decision sooner rather than later.

While nothing is official with some of the following shows as of this hour, we thought it best to send over a few updates regarding some of the shows still in limbo — and then also what may be helping or hurting them.

Gotham – While Lucifer and many comedies canceled at Fox, we do think that the Batman prequel series has a little bit of a better shot. If it was ending, why wouldn’t it be canceled by now?

Criminal Minds – We’re still confident that it’s coming, but for one reason or another, last-minute negotiations are all the rage with this show.

The Blacklist – This is also a likely renewal; NBC doesn’t have sole ownership, and that does make renewal a little bit trickier.

Lethal Weapon – We’re not optimistic given A) all of the Clayne Crawford headlines and B) trying to find another Riggs that the majority of the fandom is going to actually accept.

Timeless – It could really go either way. The ratings aren’t there but the fan support helps to compensate. Also, NBC is a little more willing to overlook ratings than others (though, alas, they did still shun The Brave this year).

Scorpion – If it stays, it’s probably mostly for syndication deals since CBS can monetize it easily.

Agents of SHIELD – It’s ratings are poor but because of Marvel synergy, it’s got a chance for yet another last-minute renewal.

Code Black / Elementary – Because of their super-late premiere dates, we’re unfortunately not altogether hopeful about either one of them returning for more.
