For the People, Station 19 season 2 renewals confirmed
There’s no reason to be concerned about the future of Shondaland on ABC — the network has officially given a green light to a For the People season 2 as well as a Station 19 season 2.
When it comes to Station 19, CarterMatt figures that this was not much of a surprise to anyone out there. From the get-go Station 19 was touted as the next big thing over at ABC with a great introduction on Grey’s Anatomy and also using that show as a lead-in. While the ratings have not been sensational it has performed well enough to make the network optimistic over its future. Its viewership could easily improve over the summer as more viewers start to find the show and the writers really get a chance to see what viewers appreciated the most about season 1 and continue to grow with that.
Meanwhile, For the People coming back may be one of our bigger surprises this year. It hasn’t performed particularly well this season even on the same night Roseanne is airing, but we think that what really helped it was the studio affiliation with Shondaland. With Rhimes moving over to Netflix under a new pact ABC is likely intent on keeping however many properties of hers that they possibly can — this ensures that she will still have four shows on the schedule this fall given that How to Get Away with Murder was also renewed recently for a fifth season. Grey’s Anatomy, of course, was renewed a little while ago. (Rhimes is not the showrunner for any of the series mentioned, but still actively oversees all of them.)
