Great news for everyone out there hoping to get more great CBS drama from executive producer Peter M. Lenkov — the Magnum PI reboot is now officially coming to the network this fall!

This afternoon, the network confirmed the glorious news that this series is going to be airing during the upcoming 2018-19 season. This new version of the series stars Jay Hernandez as the title character alongside Perdita Weeks, Stephen Hill, and Zachary Knighton. More news will likely come out about the show in the weeks to come, but for now the attached logline that CarterMatt has for you below gives you a small sense of what this series is about:

Upon returning home from Afghanistan, decorated ex-Navy SEAL Thomas Magnum repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator.

Given the show’s setting we have to think that there is a good chance for crossovers between this series and Hawaii Five-0  — heck, we’d love a whole Lenkov Television Universe (LTU, anyone?) that includes both of these shows as well as MacGyver. Technically, the two are also a part of the same world as all of the NCIS shows, so you could expand this further … and also include Scorpion, since it has crossed over with NCIS: Los Angeles in the past.

We’re hoping that there is some more news coming out in the weeks to come regarding Magnum PI, but we should know where it stands on the CBS fall schedule next week — if it’s there at all, since in theory it could be saved for midseason. The official premiere date could come a little bit later this summer. As a lover of all of these sorts of shows, this is one that we’re certainly excited to check out.
