Lucifer canceled at Fox, Tom Ellis confirms
In a new post on Twitter, series star Tom Ellis confirmed that the show is ending with a message that almost makes us tear up while reading it:
It has been the most amazing experience over the past 3 years playing Lucifer and falling in love with you, the fans. It fills me with great sadness to confirm the rumours that some of you have been asking. Fox has indeed cancelled #lucifer I’m so sorry guys.
Lucifer has been considered a toss-up for renewal for weeks, but with Fox losing two hours of programming to the NFL this fall, it was clear that there were going to be a lot of cancellations. Lucifer joins a long and devastating list. Remember Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Last Man on Earth? There are also some other shows that are still dangling out there, whether it be Gotham or Lethal Weapon.
As of right now, the thing that is probably the most devastating is that Lucifer is ending this season of a cliffhanger and that’s not going to be the sort of thing that anyone digests altogether well. How do you do that to the fans? Well, the writers understandably did this to entice Fox to give them another season and we hoped it would work … but unfortunately, it hasn’t.
Is there still hope?
Certainly. We’re not giving up just yet and we do think that there is a very good home for Lucifer out there in The CW. We have a separate article on why this could work so well, and you can read more about why the show should head to The CW here.
