The Voice season 15: Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson join Blake Shelton, Adam Levine
Hudson and Clarkson (who first appeared as a coach this spring) are going to join longtime show staples Blake Shelton and Adam Levine on the upcoming season premiering this fall. Rather than trying to mix things up a little bit and find coaches who could either change up the show or court new viewers, NBC is instead going for what they know works. This will be the first fall season in the past few years to not include Miley Cyrus, though we don’t look at this as some sort of sign that she is off the show for good. There is always still potential to bring someone back who was successful on the show in the past.
In a statement, NBC’s reality / alternative programming head Paul Telegdy had the following to say about Kelly and Jennifer coming back:
“We are so excited to welcome back Kelly and Jennifer, two dynamic forces who bring undeniable soul, passion and inspiration as coaches … They each have a unique understanding of what it’s like to be in the artists’ shoes. Bringing these two voices together with Blake and Adam for season 15 is sure to make this one of our best seasons yet!”
These are two very smart, extremely qualified coaches just in terms of their knowledge of the music industry and what it takes in order to make it big. They are perfect inclusions to the franchise from that vantage point, and any issues that we have with The Voice have nothing to do with either one of them. Instead, they’re geared more around the reluctance by producers to change some of the format issues that hamper this show, including the middle rounds that stunt the development of the artists somewhat by forcing them into weird duets and packages that feel too formulaic to be effective from either a growth or an entertainment standpoint.
