Young Sheldon season 2 premiere date hopes: When is it returning?
To kick things off, though, here is your customary reminder that a Young Sheldon season 2 renewal is in fact happening, and has been official for quite some time to go along with it. This news was first unveiled earlier this season after it got off to a tremendous start to the ratings. While we assume that the series is reasonably finite in that there is only so much of Sheldon Cooper’s life someone can tell, there certainly is a chance we could get several more seasons. We’re still in the early going here!
Now, as for when the series will return, September is the obvious choice. That is when the formal TV season begins and Young Sheldon is certainly not the sort of show that you are going to want to put onto the schedule. It’s a marquee series with enormous season 1 ratings and a fan base that has become more loyal over time. Even with the ratings declining somewhat in the spring, you are still talking about a program here that is drawing more than a 2.2 rating in the demo and also more than 12 million viewers on average through season 1.
The first bit of advice we’d share for CBS is simple: Not moving Young Sheldon at any cost. If The Big Bang Theory moves to Mondays, put it there. If it stays on Thursdays, keep it there. Don’t get cute or creative here thinking that it is going to help another show. Keep the ratings that you have strong. Personally, we think that there could be something interesting that comes with sticking The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, and the new Murphy Brown on the same night to create a comedy juggernaut lineup. CBS needs to find a way to get back some of the dominance in this genre that they once had back when Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men were still on the air. Heck, even when How I Met Your Mother was anchoring Monday nights we were seeing a performance that was as a whole significantly better.
