American Gods season 2: Timeless star Sakina Jaffrey to recur
According to a report from Deadline, Jaffrey (who plays Agent Christopher on the NBC series) is going to be recurring on American Gods season 2 in the role of Mama-Ji, a Hindu goddess of war who now works as a waitress at the Motel America. The character description notes that “with her necklace of skulls, acerbic wit and free spirit, she’s a match for any mighty god or man.”
American Gods season 2 is currently in production and based on all current indications, it will premiere at some point in 2019. Jaffrey hinted at some other upcoming projects in an interview with CarterMatt recently and with that in mind, it’s easy to be thrilled for her. There are few shows as visually stunning or engrossing as American Gods. There were some changes behind the scenes in between seasons but all signs do point towards the series coming back for more.
For those wondering, this gig has no bearing on whether or not she could continue to be a part of Timeless in the future. Provided that NBC does decide to order a third season, production would not begin until much later this year. Think of this in a similar way to Jaffrey’s arc recently on Homeland or some of the work Malcolm Barrett did on Preacher / Abigail Spencer on Grey’s Anatomy. With Timeless season 2 having only ten episodes, that allowed the cast opportunities to explore some other work in the off months.
The two-hour Timeless season finale is going to air on NBC Sunday night. If you do want to get some more news on it, including a sneak peek, all you have to do is head over to the link here.
